Assignment 9 -- Word/Resume -- Grading Criteria

There are different point scales used on each assignment. Harder assignments have more points possible.

Assignment 9 -- Word Resume

  1. 42 points maximum
    1. The assignment was graded by opening each student merge document (cg3xzz-9-merge) in Word and looking for the following features.
    2. If there was no merge document (cg3xzz-9-merge), we looked for the both document (cg3xzz-9-both), and data document (cg3xzz-9-data) and main document (cg3xzz-9) that should contain the resume and cover letter.
    3. The graders may take up to 4 points away if some thing looks broken in some major way.
  2. Resume Portion (19 points)
    1. 2 points -- a document called cg3xzz-9 which contains the resume in some form in a folder called hw9.
    2. 1 point -- proper margins, 1.25 inches left and right, 1.0 inches top and bottom.
    3. 2 points -- the whole document is in 12 point Times font (except for name and "Category headings")
    4. 1 point -- Name and address information is centered; the name only is 14 point and bold.
      1. -1 point if centered, but tweaked in some way
    5. 2 points -- If there is a style called "Category" defined
      1. -1 point if the style is not correct (should be +bold and +italic)
    6. 2 points -- If the other "headings" (Objectives, Education, Other Acting/..., and Organizations) are style Category
      1. -1 point if some headings are missed (E.g., Objectives).
    7. 3 points -- correctly turning the resume into a table (except name and address).
      1. -1 point if the cells in the right column aren't properly joined together (into the single cell they started in on HTML version).
      2. -1 point if the text in the cells doesn't "flow"
      3. -1 point if the table has a border or partial border
    8. 2 points -- If there is a style called "Description" defined
      1. -1 point if the style is not correct (should be (approximately) +indent .25, +6 point space after)
    9. 2 points -- If all the cells/paragraphs in the right column are style Description
      1. -1 point if the style of the left hand column is "Description"
    10. 1 points -- If the extraneous ¶ (after "or") in the "Objectives" paragraph is removed (and replaced with a space) so the text flows.
  3. Cover Letter Portion (10 points)
    1. 2 points -- If some form of the Cover Letter has been copied in front of the resume.
    2. 1 points -- For changing "Date" to Insert Date from the Insert Menu, (has a gray background when you select it).
    3. 2 points -- For fixing the paragraph "flow" in the 2 large paragraphs.
    4. 4 points -- for changing the name(s) and address to the corresponding "Insert Field Name"
      1. -1 point if both names "Big" in the large paragraphs weren't changed.
      2. -1 if there aren't spaces between the first and last names in the address, or there isn't space between the city and state.
    5. 1 points -- a section break (Next Page) between Cover Letter and resume
  4. Data Document Portion -- 6 points
    1. 2 points -- Some form of the names and addresses data is copied into a document called cg3xzz-9-data
    2. 2 points -- The data has been turned into a table.
    3. 2 points -- a first row with column headings/field names: Lastname, Firstname, Address, City, State, Zipcode
  5. Print Merge Document
    1. 4 points -- for a correct merged document: cg3xzz-9-merge
  6. Correct Header
    1. 3 points -- for a correct header in the merged document (and "both" document)
      1. 1 point -- having a header that looks reasonably like the sample
      2. 1 point -- Date in correct format; both date and page number should be Word produced (from toolbar/menu) and have a gray box around them when you click on them.
      3. 1 point -- the coverletter should not have a header. Check second and subsequent coverletters in merged document.
