Assignment 3 Grading Criteria
There are different point scales used on each assignment.
Harder assignments have more points possible.
Assignment 3
There are 45 points overall
Grading is pretty liberal and we'll accept a lot of variance due
to the changing nature of the internet.
Setup and format
5 points
- 1 point, a hw3 folder
- 1 point, have a text file called hw3.txt
in your hw3 folder. You will lose .5 points if it's
in your home directory. You will lose 1 points if its
called hw3.xls or hw3.txt.xls
(Excel format instead of .txt).
- 1 point, have your account in A1, and your name in B1
- 1 point, have "Assigment 3" in A3
- 1 point, have correct headings: "search engine",
"sponsor links", "count", "blue moon url", and "Advanced Search"
in cells A4 - E4 respectively
Part 1 -- URLs for the first search result
3 points for each search engine, 24 points total
- Results were to be in the Internet section (not
"sponsored" or "featured")
of the results page. The search was for blue moon.
- .5 points -- observe if there were sponsored or featured links, and
enter "yes" or "no" in your table
- .5 points -- observe if there was a count given for the number
of results found; if there were 2 counts given, we wanted the
Internet count. Enter the count number (if present) into your table
- 1 point -- the URL for the first Internet result, if there was one, otherwise
the first result
- 1 point -- screen shot of the window showing the page found
when doing the search for "blue moon".
Part 2 -- URLs for Advanced search, if there was one
2 points for each search engine; 16 points total
Unlike previous quarters, it appears that all the search
engines now have an advanced search page.
However, the link to the advanced search page may appear on
the search results page, and not on the main page for the search engine
itself.
If you said "none", presumably it was because you only looked at the
main page for the search engine. So you will have no screen shot of
advanced search page; we'll give you 1 of the 2 points.
- 1 point -- have the correct URL for the advanced search page for
each search engine
- 1 point -- the screenshot for the advanced search page.
Results
Our results looked about like the table below.
The search engine name is a link to the home page for the search engine.
The URL for the "blue moon" search result is a link to
the search results page that we
got when we tried the search.
(The "askjeeves" URL has been artificially split up so that your
browser will display it on multiple lines instead of have
one very wide table cell.)
And finally, the URL for the advanced search page is, again, the page
that we found.
