Assignment 3 Grading Criteria

There are different point scales used on each assignment. Harder assignments have more points possible.

Assignment 3

There are 45 points overall

Grading is pretty liberal and we'll accept a lot of variance due to the changing nature of the internet.

Setup and format

5 points
  1. 1 point, a hw3 folder
  2. 1 point, have a text file called hw3.txt in your hw3 folder. You will lose .5 points if it's in your home directory. You will lose 1 points if its called hw3.xls or hw3.txt.xls (Excel format instead of .txt).
  3. 1 point, have your account in A1, and your name in B1
  4. 1 point, have "Assigment 3" in A3
  5. 1 point, have correct headings: "search engine", "sponsor links", "count", "blue moon url", and "Advanced Search" in cells A4 - E4 respectively

Part 1 -- URLs for the first search result

3 points for each search engine, 24 points total

Part 2 -- URLs for Advanced search, if there was one

2 points for each search engine; 16 points total

Unlike previous quarters, it appears that all the search engines now have an advanced search page. However, the link to the advanced search page may appear on the search results page, and not on the main page for the search engine itself.Frown

If you said "none", presumably it was because you only looked at the main page for the search engine. So you will have no screen shot of advanced search page; we'll give you 1 of the 2 points.

Results

Our results looked about like the table below. The search engine name is a link to the home page for the search engine. The URL for the "blue moon" search result is a link to the search results page that we got when we tried the search. (The "askjeeves" URL has been artificially split up so that your browser will display it on multiple lines instead of have one very wide table cell.) And finally, the URL for the advanced search page is, again, the page that we found.
